The We Grow Dreams job-training program provides opportunities for individuals with disabilities (Team Members) to learn a variety of tasks in the day-to-day operation of a wholesale and retail greenhouse business. Over 45 specific jobs have been identified at the We Grow Dreams Greenhouse & Garden Center for the job-training program. Detailed descriptions of the essential tasks required to learn each job have been compiled for training purposes. Some job examples include: deadheading plants, filling pots with soil for seeds/seedlings, transplanting, spacing plant materials, watering, stocking plants/supplies, greeting & assisting customers, folding cartons, filling bags with soil, office tasks and maintenance tasks. In addition to the variety of greenhouse tasks providing job-training experience, Team Members learn to produce garden bricks, birdbaths, birdhouses, planters and other garden accessories to be sold as part of the retail operation. Each Team Member’s family participates in the program by contributing a minimum of ten volunteer hours per month. During this time they may assist their family Team Member or work with other Team Members as job coaches. One-on-one job coaching provides each Team Member with the guidance, instruction and support needed to be successful while learning the greenhouse jobs. All job coaches and Team Members attend a job training orientation program prior to participation in the job-training program. |
